Jazzmoon always on the rise.
Where on earth would jazz be without the moon? Goddess of love, ghostly galleon*, »a joyless eye, that finds no object worth its constancy«**, price-piece in the rocket-race. The Moon is all of these clichés and more. Both myth and metaphor, the Earthís private satellite also is a constant source of song. Fitting then, that a German jazzhead with a penchant for poetry decided to adopt a moony moniker for his decidedly different dj-pool. Thus, Jazzmoon and the moonman were born. Five years down the line the slightly lunar protagonist is still spreading wisdom and vinyl. Every time a 12"-package arrives and out comes a tip-sheet with that spaced-out half-full-moon-logo (and whatever poetic verses struck the moonmanís fancy that night) djs know theyíre in for a treat. It might be trippy, headzy, funky or jazzy, but itís always good. Accordingly, the tracks of this compilation of some of the jazzmoonmanís favourites from five years of dedicated dj-ing and -promoting vary in style but not in quality. Thereís the francophone- pop of »Katerine«, the Soul of Motown (did you know Stevie did »Light My Fire«?), a few selected remixes (of Femi Kuti, Timbalada, Urban Knights, Innerzone Orchestra, Joe Henderson and the re-unified Headhunters, no less) as well as a bunch of exclusive new tracks from INFRAcom!, Landegaard and the people of Hamburgís Mojo Club. If it wasnít such a cliché, one could call this mix »eclectic«. (Oooh, what a little moonlight can do to you...)
But what is wrong with a truthful cliché?
